Lines Of Leaving: Lines of leaving
26/11/07 || Lord K Philipson
Some fucken ex-staffer bitch once covered a demo from these Finns here at GD. He didn’t seem all too ecstatic about the offering at hand, but hey, he didn’t rip them a new asstunnel either. Maybe I can change that? Or maybe it’s not even needed? In a while we will know.
If you, for some reason, feel like giving these guys a chance no matter what I might end up saying in this review, do not, I repeat: *DO NOT* put on the tune “Fistula”. It will make you hurl. Trust me, I just did. I didn’t just throw up a little in my mouth. Nope, think firehose hurling. That start of a song must be one of the absolutely worst things I have heard in quite some time. I don’t count musical jokes such as Xasthur in this calculation, just so you know. I hurl on Xasthur.
Anyways, Lines Of Leaving is hardly a metal band (which means it takes some vagina to actually send us this album since they weren’t exactly praised last time, and we are a metal site after all), but more of a rockish act. These guys puzzle me sometimes becoz they throw in quite a bunch of various influences, shit ranging from happy punk crap to choruses that could work in a soccer game. No exactly my favourite kind of dish, you know. But it’s not that awful, it’s just pretty awful at times. And at other occasions the band is quite damn ok. Lines Of Leaving got a somewhat “own” sound without being groundbreaking or anything, but the huge pool of influences sure adds something special to their music. Every now and then they end up sounding like a pissdrunk Irish act (listen to “Extravagance”) that could be performing at your local pub on a Friday night, while actually sounding like a unit that got their shit together (“Slut #1”, this album’s best tune) quite well every now and then.
All in all there are some decent-to-good tunes here, but in the end it’s just not really my thing. I’m pretty damn sure that the guys of the band kinda knew we would say this. After all, we are a fucken metal site. Kind of.
6,5 out of 10.
